ჯორჯ ორუელი (ნამდვილი სახელი და გვარი ერიკ ართურ ბლერი, ინგლ. Eric Arthur Blair; დ. 25 ივნისი, 1903, მოტიჰარი, ინდოეთი — გ. 21 იანვარი, 1950, ლონდონი) — ინგლისელი მწერალი და ესეისტი, მისი ნაწარმოებები გამოირჩევა წერის მარტივი სტილით, ტოტალიტარიზმის კრიტიკითა და დემოკრატიული სოციალიზმის მხარდაჭერით.[1]

ბიოგრაფია
ორუელი დაიბადა 1903 წელს ინდოეთში. 1904 წლიდან იგი ცხოვრობდა ინგლისში. 1917-1921 წლებში ორუელი სწავლობდა იტონის კოლეჯში. 1922 წლიდან მსახურობდა ბრიტანეთის პოლიციაში მიანმარიში. მისი ცხოვრების ეს პერიოდი აისახა 1934 წელს გამოქვეყენებულ თხზულებაში „დღეები ბირმაში“. 1927 წელს ორუელმა თავი დაანება პოლიციაში სამსახურს პროტესტის ნიშნად და დაბრუნდა ინგლისში, სადაც იგი 1936 წლამდე დარჩა. ამ პერიოდში ორუელი აქვეყნებდა თავის პირველ ნაწარმოებებს. 1937 წელს იგი იბრძოდა ესპანეთის სამოქალაქო ომში მარქსისტული ერთობის მუშათა პარტიის მხარეზე მეორე მსოფლიო ომის დროს მწერალი მუშაობდა The Observer-ის კორესპონდენტად. 1945 წელს ორუელმა გამოაქვეყნა იგავი „ცხოველების ფერმა“, რომელშიც იგი აღწერს რუსეთში სოციალისტური იდეის განხორციელების კრახს. 1949 წელს გამოქვეყნდა ორუელის უმნიშვნელოვანესი ნაწარმოები, რომანი „1984“.
