აპოლინარ რავენელი წარმოშობით ანტიოქიელი იყო. რავენის ეპისკოპოსად იგი პავლე მოციქულმა აკურთხა რომში, იმპერატორ კლავდიუსის (41-54) დროს. წმინდა აპოლინარი 28 წლის მანძილზე განაგებდა რავენის ეკლესიას და გარდაიცვალა ქრისტეს შობიდან დაახლოებით 75 წელს.
