ცხოვრება
პაულ დილსი იყო ფილოლოგის ჰერმან დილსის უმცროსი ვაჟიშვილი. პაულ დილსი სწავლობდა ბერლინისა და ვენის უნივერსიტეტებში. 1906 წელს მან დისერტაცია დაიცვა ბერლინის ფრიდრიხ ვილჰელმის სახელობის უნივერსიტეტში თემაზე „ზმნის ადგილი ძველ ზემოგერმანულ პროზაში“ და მიენიჭა ფილოსოფიის დოქტორის წოდება.
1909 წელს იგი ბერლინში ინდოგერმანული ენათმეცნიერების პრივატდოცენტი გახდა. მოგვიანებით დილსი პრაღის გერმანული უნივერსიტეტის პროფესორი გახდა, 1911 წელს ბრესლაუს (ვროცლავი) უნივერსიტეტის პროფესორის ხდება.
1947-დან 1952 წლამდე იგი ასწავლიდა მიუნხენის უნივერსიტეტში. 1944 წლამდე დილსი ბავარიის მეცნიერებათა აკადემიის კორესპონდენტი იყო, ხოლო 1947 წლიდან კი ნამდვილი წევრი.
პაულ დილსი აქვეყნებდა შრომებს ინდოგერმანისტიკაში, გერმანულ და სლავურ ფილოლოგიაში, რომელთა შორისაა ორი ტომი ძველი საეკლესიო სლავური ენის გრამატიკაში.
